Access to practical tools & resources to help Canadians better understand and conserve wetlands.
Description
The first step in establishing habitat-based priorities in bird conservation is to identify important bird habitat. The designation of a network of sites can help decision-makers focus their efforts and protect the most critical bird habitat. The goals of the Important Bird Area (IBA) program are to:
- Identify a network of sites to conserve the natural diversity of Canadian bird species
- Determine the type of protection or stewardship required for each site
- Engage local residents to develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of conservation plans
