Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring Program

The Marsh Monitoring Program is a binational, long-term monitoring program that coordinates the skills, interests and stewardship of hundreds of citizens across the Great Lakes basin to help understand, monitor and conserve the region?s wetlands and their amphibian and bird inhabitants. The Program organizes skilled volunteers to survey marsh bird and selected amphibian populations to contribute to our understanding of their habitat needs. The Program has contributed to the conservation of wetlands and wetland-dependent wildlife in the Great Lakes region since its establishment by Bird Studies Canada and Environment Canada in 1994. Since then, it has been developed and expanded through the additional support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Great Lakes Protection Fund.
