Description

The Great Lakes Sustainability Fund (GLSF) is a component of the Great Lakes Program's Great Lakes Basin 2020 Action Plan. The GLSF, which has evolved from the Great Lakes 2000 Cleanup Fund, was announced in July 2000 and aims to significantly accelerate work to restore the environmental quality of Canada's remaining 16 Areas of Concern (AOCs). The 5-year/$30 million GLSF will build on past successes and be administered by Environment Canada on behalf of eight Government of Canada departments which make up the Great Lakes Basin 2020 Action Plan team. Funding will be provided to initiatives that are essential to the restoration of currently impaired beneficial uses. Such projects may include habitat restoration, contaminated sediment remediation, stewardship, and control of urban and rural runoff.
