Description

The Natural Heritage Information Centre compiles, maintains and provides information on rare, threatened and endangered species and spaces in Ontario. This information is stored in a central repository containing a computerized database, map files and an information library, which are accessible for conservation applications, land use planning, park management, etc. The Ontario Natural Areas Database provides information on wetlands that have been recognised as having ecological significance, including a summary of information available from wetland evaluation files resulting from the application of the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System. The official status of the wetland, and whether it has been evaluated by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, is provided in the record. Information on wetlands can be accessed using the geographic query or National Topographic Service map number.
