Description

This is Quebec's central statute for wetland protection. It provides for fines in the event of offences. This statute protects 11 designated wetland habitats for specific wildlife species on public lands, including:

  • waterfowl gathering areas
  • fish habitat
  • muskrat habitat
  • habitat of a threatened or vulnerable wildlife species
The main focus of the legislation is on wetlands along the St. Lawrence River where the greatest wetland loss has occurred.
