Access to practical tools & resources to help Canadians better understand and conserve wetlands.

Description

This wetland education Internet site helps students to learn about nitrogen, energy, carbon and hydrological cycles in wetlands through text and animation, or to use an interactive time line to view maps showing the land use and development affecting a wetland site over the last 150 years.

With a grant from the private sector, the Environmental Studies Program at Langara College created a natural wetland habitat on the college campus by introducing several native species of plants to a stream and pond in the spring of 2002. Students in the program test the pond and stream at regular intervals for iron, nitrates and other factors in a continuous monitoring process as they learn about wetland chemistry, biology, ecology and history. This Internet site documents the student's research and findings.
